Built for a living room 2.9 metres wide, where every millimetre of visible floor was worth having.

Lorong is the lane — the narrow service road that threads the back of every older estate in Singapore, and the address of the flat this piece was drawn for.

That living room measured 2.9 metres wall to wall. A standard three-seater would have filled it and a loveseat would have looked apologetic, so Lorong sits between the two: 1560mm long, with arms slim enough to give the seat almost the full width of the frame.

The canvas is a warm ochre, close to the colour of the estate's own brickwork in late light. Two decisions do the real work. The base is set high and inset, so a band of floor stays visible beneath the sofa and the room keeps reading to its own corners. And the back stops just below the window line, so from the doorway you see the sofa, then the light — in that order.
